Cum On See the Art: Uncovering the Angel and Devil in Quiet Riot

I probably own the most unique copy of Quiet Riot’s “Metal Health” album as I seriously doubt you will ever see another quite like this again. While just having this album signed by the entire band—Kevin DuBrow (R.I.P.), Carlos Cavazo, Rudy Sarzo, and Frankie Banali—makes it pretty cool, thanks to two members it is rather remarkable.
As you have probably noticed, there are some drawings on the back cover, so let me explain. In the late 1980s, I attended a bass clinic for Rudy in Orlando, Florida. After the clinic, I had Rudy sign my album. Being a consummate jokester, Rudy drew a halo over his head and devil horns, glasses, and a beard on Kevin’s picture.
A few years later, on July 8, 1990, I met Kevin at a little club in Ormond Beach, Florida, called The Other Place. Kevin was there to watch the band Julliet, featuring Kenny McGee, whose album he produced. When I approached Kevin I was initially afraid to show him my album as I’d heard about his reputation of being a hothead. Eventually, though, I worked up the courage to have him sign it. Kevin could see I was hesitant, but I handed the album to him anyway and said, “I did not do this to your picture.” Curious, he looked at his picture and chuckled. I told him that fair is fair and he could do whatever he liked to the album. Kevin signed my album and then over Rudy’s picture he drew a big circle and crossed out his face. Gotta love it!
